Apple and White Cheddar Tart Recipe

When I first tried making the apple and white cheddar tart, I couldn’t believe how something so simple could taste so elegant. This recipe brings together buttery puff pastry, sweet apples, and sharp cheddar cheese for a perfect balance of flavors. I remember taking it out of the oven and being amazed at its golden, flaky crust and the tantalizing aroma that filled my kitchen.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • Puff pastry
  • White cheddar cheese
  • Apple preferably Gala or Honeycrisp
  • Honey
  • Fresh thyme

Method

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 400°F. Roll out your thawed puff pastry on a parchment-lined baking sheet. This makes for an even, mess-free base. Make sure to leave about an inch of border around the edges for a neat finish.
  2. Sprinkle freshly grated white cheddar evenly across the pastry, staying within the border. The sharpness of the cheddar will complement the sweetness of the apples perfectly. Grating your own cheese ensures it melts evenly and tastes fresh.
  3. Place your thinly sliced apples in an overlapping, decorative pattern over the cheese. Whether you choose to fan them out or arrange them in spirals, this is your chance to get creative!
  4. Pop the tart into the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown. The apples will turn tender, and the cheese will be perfectly gooey. Keep an eye on it toward the end to avoid over-browning.
  5. Once out of the oven, drizzle the tart with high-quality honey for a touch of sweetness. Sprinkle on some fresh thyme leaves for a herby aroma and an added layer of flavor. Slice into pieces and serve immediately!

Notes

Thaw the Puff Pastry Properly: Take the frozen puff pastry out of the freezer and thaw it overnight in the fridge. This ensures it’s pliable without becoming sticky.
Use High-Quality Ingredients: Opt for fresh apples, high-quality cheddar, and a good honey. These small choices make big flavor differences.
Cut the Apples Thinly: Slicing the apples super thin helps them cook evenly and creates an elegant texture in every bite.
Experiment with Arrangements: Have fun with the way you place the apple slices! Rows, spirals, or fans all look stunning once baked.
