Berry Blast Smoothie with Flaxseed Recipe

I made this Berry Blast Smoothie with Flaxseed on a morning when I wanted something refreshing but still filling. After blending it up and taking the first sip, I was honestly surprised by how balanced it tasted.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • Mixed berries – 1 cup a blend of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries works best; frozen berries give a thicker smoothie without needing ice
  • Banana – 1 medium adds natural sweetness and creaminess; use a ripe banana for smoother blending and better flavor
  • Low-fat yogurt – ½ cup creates a creamy base and adds protein; plain yogurt keeps the smoothie balanced without overpowering the fruit
  • Apple juice – ½ cup helps everything blend smoothly and adds mild sweetness; unsweetened juice prevents the smoothie from becoming too sugary
  • Ground flaxseed – 1 tablespoon provides fiber and omega-3 fats; always use ground flaxseed because whole seeds won’t digest properly
  • Honey – 1 teaspoon optional (use only if needed; ripe fruit usually provides enough sweetness)
  • Ice cubes – 4–5 cubes optional (use only when working with fresh berries; frozen fruit already gives enough chill)

Method

  1. Start by washing the berries thoroughly if they are fresh. Peel and slice the banana into smaller pieces so it blends evenly. Measure all ingredients before starting to keep the process quick and smooth.
  2. Pour the apple juice and yogurt into the blender first to help the blades move easily. Add the berries, banana slices, ground flaxseed, and honey if using. Ice cubes should go in last if needed.
  3. Blend everything on high speed for 30 to 45 seconds. Stop once to scrape down the sides if needed. The mixture should look thick, smooth, and evenly blended with no chunks.
  4. If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash of apple juice or water and blend again. If it’s too thin, add a few more frozen berries. Blend briefly until the texture feels just right.
  5. Pour the smoothie into a chilled glass and serve right away. Freshly blended smoothies taste best and have the creamiest texture.

Notes

  • I always use ground flaxseed because it blends better and provides more nutritional benefits.
  • When I want extra creaminess, I freeze the banana ahead of time and skip the ice.
  • I like blending the liquid and flaxseed first for a few seconds to avoid clumps.
  • Blending slightly longer gives a café-style smooth and silky finish.
