Blackberry Goat Cheese Crostini Recipe

I recently made these Blackberry Goat Cheese Crostini for a small family gathering, and they disappeared from the plate within minutes. The creamy goat cheese, juicy blackberries, and crispy toasted bread create the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. I honestly loved how simple they were to prepare while still looking elegant and impressive
Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 French baguette sliced into ½-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces goat cheese softened
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly cracked black pepper to taste
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish optional

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice the baguette into even pieces so they toast uniformly. Brush each slice lightly with olive oil on both sides for extra crispness.
  2. Arrange the bread slices in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake them for about 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through so both sides become golden and crunchy. Let the toasted slices cool slightly before adding toppings.
  3. Place the softened goat cheese into a small bowl and stir it gently until smooth and creamy. If the cheese feels too firm, let it sit at room temperature for a few extra minutes before mixing.
  4. You can add a tiny drizzle of honey directly into the cheese mixture for extra sweetness. This helps create a balanced flavor that pairs wonderfully with the tart berries and crispy bread.
  5. Wash the fresh blackberries carefully and pat them dry using paper towels. Dry berries work best because excess moisture can soften the crostini too quickly.
  6. Slice larger blackberries in half if needed. Keeping some berries whole and some halved creates a prettier presentation with more texture variation on each bite.
  7. Spread a generous layer of goat cheese onto each toasted baguette slice. Make sure the cheese reaches close to the edges so every bite has creamy flavor.
  8. Top each crostini with fresh blackberries, gently pressing them into the cheese so they stay in place. The contrast between the dark berries and creamy cheese looks especially beautiful.
  9. Drizzle honey lightly over the assembled crostini to enhance sweetness and add shine. Then drizzle a small amount of balsamic glaze for depth and rich flavor.
  10. Sprinkle fresh thyme leaves, salt, and cracked black pepper over the top. Add mint leaves if desired for extra freshness and color before serving immediately.

Notes

  • I always toast the bread until deeply golden because slightly under-toasted bread becomes soggy quickly.
  • I like letting the goat cheese soften naturally at room temperature for easier spreading.
  • I found that using fresh berries instead of frozen makes a huge difference in texture and flavor.
  • I sometimes add chopped toasted walnuts because they give a wonderful crunch.
  • I personally love adding a little lemon zest for extra freshness.
  • I usually assemble the crostini just before serving so the bread stays crisp.
  • I drizzle the balsamic glaze lightly because too much can overpower the delicate berry flavor.
