Cold Foam Recipe

I started making this cold foam recipe at home when I wanted my morning coffee to feel a little more special. After trying several versions, I found that this simple combination creates the perfect creamy and airy topping. What I love most is how quickly it comes together with just a few ingredients.
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream – Helps stabilize the foam and creates a creamy luxurious texture.
  • 2 tablespoons milk 2% milk works well – Keeps the foam light and pourable instead of turning into whipped cream.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar – Adds a touch of sweetness without overpowering the coffee.
  • Pinch of salt optional – Enhances flavor and gives the foam a slightly sweet-and-savory taste.

Method

  1. Add the heavy whipping cream, milk, sugar, and optional salt into a small jar or cup. If you want flavored cold foam, add your chosen flavoring at this stage. Stir lightly so everything begins to blend together.
  2. Place the handheld frother into the mixture and begin frothing on medium speed. Move the frother around the container to ensure all ingredients are incorporated evenly. This helps create a consistent texture throughout.
  3. Continue frothing until the mixture becomes light, creamy, and slightly thickened. Be careful not to over-froth because it can quickly become whipped cream. The ideal consistency should remain smooth and pourable.
  4. Pour the finished cold foam over iced coffee, cold brew, or even hot coffee. The foam should float beautifully on top while slowly blending into the drink. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
  5. Cold foam tastes best when made right before serving. Its airy texture is freshest immediately after frothing. Enjoy it while it is light, fluffy, and perfectly creamy.

Notes

  • I always use cold ingredients straight from the refrigerator because they foam better.
  • I avoid over-frothing since it can quickly turn into whipped cream.
  • I add a tiny pinch of salt because it makes the flavor richer and more balanced.
  • I use a handheld frother whenever possible because it creates the smoothest texture.
  • I serve the foam immediately after making it to enjoy the lightest consistency.
  • I experiment with extracts and syrups to create new flavor combinations.
