Cream Soda Float Recipe

I recently made this Cream Soda Float Recipe on a warm afternoon, and it instantly brought back memories of old-fashioned ice cream shop treats. The combination of bubbly cream soda and rich vanilla ice cream creates a sweet, creamy dessert that feels both nostalgic and refreshing
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 large scoop vanilla ice cream – Use a premium vanilla ice cream for the creamiest texture and richest flavor.
  • cups cream soda – Chill the soda well before using so the float stays cold longer and develops a beautiful frothy top.
  • Whipped cream optional – Adds extra creaminess and gives the float a classic soda fountain appearance.
  • Maraschino cherry optional – A traditional garnish that adds a pop of color.
  • Sprinkles optional – Perfect for making the float more festive.
  • Caramel sauce or chocolate syrup optional – Drizzle on top for additional sweetness and flavor.

Method

  1. Place your serving glass in the freezer for about 20 to 30 minutes before assembling the float. This helps keep everything colder for longer. A chilled glass also slows down the melting process of the ice cream.
  2. Remove the chilled glass from the freezer and place a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream inside. Position the scoop in the center of the glass. The ice cream forms the creamy base of the float and creates its signature texture.
  3. Carefully pour the chilled cream soda over the ice cream. Pouring slowly is important because the soda will immediately create foam. Stop pouring when the liquid reaches just below the rim of the glass.
  4. Allow the float to sit for a few seconds as the foam settles naturally. This helps prevent spills and creates an attractive layered appearance. The ice cream will begin blending with the soda to create a creamy vanilla flavor throughout the drink.
  5. Top the float with whipped cream, sprinkles, caramel sauce, chocolate syrup, or a cherry if desired. These additions make the float look even more inviting. They also add extra flavor and texture.
  6. Serve the float right away with a long spoon and straw. The best texture happens when the ice cream is slowly melting into the soda. Enjoy it while it's cold, frothy, and creamy.

Notes

  • I always chill the glass first because it helps the float stay cold much longer.
  • I prefer using premium vanilla ice cream since it creates a richer and creamier drink.
  • I pour the cream soda very slowly to control the foam and avoid overflow.
  • I like adding whipped cream and a cherry for an authentic soda-shop presentation.
  • I sometimes drizzle caramel sauce over the top for extra indulgence.
  • I serve the float immediately because the texture is best before the ice cream melts too much.
