Easy Kids Yogurt Parfait Recipe

I made these parfaits on a busy school morning, and my kids asked for them again the next day. They took me about ten minutes, and I did not turn on the stove once. The creamy yogurt, juicy fruit, and crunchy topping hit the spot every single time.
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain whole milk yogurt: Regular or Greek both work and the full fat gives a creamy, filling base.
  • 1 cup fruit fresh berries, thawed frozen berries, diced mango, or applesauce: Choose soft, ripe pieces so little mouths can chew them easily.
  • 4 tablespoons hemp seeds chia seeds, or unsweetened shredded coconut (optional): This layer acts as a shield and keeps the crunch from going soggy.
  • 1 cup crunchy topper granola, mini animal crackers, dry cereal, or crushed graham crackers: Add it last so it stays crisp

Method

  1. Set out your cups and measure every ingredient first. If you use frozen fruit, thaw it in the fridge or on the counter and drain any extra juice. Dice larger fruit like mango into small, kid-sized pieces.
  2. Spoon about half of the yogurt into each cup. Press it gently down so there are no big gaps. This creamy base holds the rest of the layers in place.
  3. Spoon a generous layer of fruit over the yogurt. Berries, mango, or applesauce all look lovely here. I like to place a few pieces against the glass so the color shows.
  4. Cover the fruit with the rest of your yogurt. Smooth the top with the back of the spoon. This second layer seals in the fruit and keeps the juices from soaking the topping.
  5. Scatter the hemp seeds, chia seeds, or shredded coconut evenly across the yogurt. This thin layer is my secret weapon. It adds a bit of protein and keeps your crunchy topper dry.
  6. Top each cup with granola, mini animal crackers, cereal, or graham cracker crumbs. Add it right before serving for the best crunch. Keep a rough ratio of about twice as much yogurt as fruit or topping.
  7. Serve the parfaits right away while everything is fresh. You can also pop them in the fridge for later. If you chill them for more than a few hours, add the crunchy topping at the last minute.

Notes

  • I always use plain whole milk yogurt, because I can control the sweetness and my kids stay full longer.
  • I let my kids pick their own fruit and topper, and they eat far more when they build the cup themselves.
  • I keep the yogurt layers about twice as thick as the fruit and topping layers for the best balance.
  • I add the seed or coconut layer every time, since it really does protect the crunch.
  • I drain thawed frozen fruit well, or the extra juice turns the yogurt watery.
  • I use clear cups, because the colorful layers get my kids excited to dig in.
  • I chop soft fruit into tiny pieces for toddlers, so every spoonful feels safe and easy to chew.
  • I keep a small tray of toppers on the counter, so my kids can tap in their own crunch without making a mess.
  • I scale the recipe up or down by keeping the same ratio, which makes it simple to feed one child or a whole group.
