Garlic Butter Honey BBQ Chicken Tacos Recipe

I recently made these garlic butter honey BBQ chicken tacos, and honestly, they’ve become one of my go-to quick dinners. The combination of sweet honey, smoky BBQ sauce, and rich garlic butter totally surprised me. I love how fast everything comes together without sacrificing flavor. Every bite feels juicy, sticky, and perfectly balanced
Total Time 20 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil – Helps cook the chicken evenly; use neutral oil like avocado oil for best results.
  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast (diced) – Cut into small, even pieces so it cooks quickly and stays juicy.
  • 1 tsp salt – Enhances overall flavor; adjust depending on BBQ sauce saltiness.
  • 1 tsp black pepper – Adds mild heat and balance.
  • 1 tsp onion powder – Gives a subtle sweet-savory depth without extra prep.
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter – Creates a rich base and balances the sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp garlic minced – Fresh garlic works best for bold aroma and taste.
  • 2 tbsp honey – Adds a sticky sweetness that pairs perfectly with BBQ sauce.
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce – Choose a smoky or slightly spicy variety for extra flavor.
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar – Brightens the sauce and cuts through richness.
  • 8 small tortillas – Use soft street-style tortillas and warm before serving.

Method

  1. Start by heating oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add diced chicken along with salt, pepper, and onion powder. Cook until golden and fully done, making sure to get a slight sear for extra flavor.
  2. Remove the cooked chicken and lower the heat slightly. Melt butter in the same pan, then add minced garlic and cook briefly until fragrant. Stir in honey, BBQ sauce, and apple cider vinegar to create a rich, glossy sauce.
  3. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss it in the sauce. Let it simmer gently so every piece gets coated in that sticky, flavorful glaze.
  4. While the chicken stays warm, heat your tortillas in the microwave or on a pan. This keeps them soft and flexible for filling.
  5. Fill each tortilla with the saucy chicken and add your favorite toppings. Serve immediately and enjoy the perfect mix of sweet, smoky, and savory flavors.

Notes

  • I always use fresh garlic instead of garlic paste—it makes a huge difference in flavor.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan; I’ve noticed the chicken browns better this way.
  • I like using a smoky BBQ sauce—it adds more depth to the dish.
  • Sometimes I add a pinch of chili flakes for a subtle heat kick.
  • Warming tortillas properly makes them softer and prevents breaking.
