Ginger Onion Fried Sea Bass Recipe

I recently tried making Ginger Onion Fried Sea Bass at home, and let me tell you, it was a revelation. The aroma of ginger and garlic sizzling in the pan instantly lifted my mood. Each bite was perfectly tender, with a hint of sweetness and umami that made my taste buds dance.
Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 sea bass fillet cut into pieces – fresh fillets work best for flavor and texture.
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil – I prefer neutral oils like vegetable or canola for frying.
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger – gives a fragrant spicy aroma.
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic – balances the ginger with savory notes.
  • 2 stalks green onions chopped – adds freshness and mild onion flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce – boosts umami taste.
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce – adds depth and richness.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar – balances savory flavors.
  • Salt and pepper to taste – enhances overall seasoning.

Method

  1. Start by cutting your sea bass fillet into bite-sized pieces. Make sure the fillets are dry by patting them with paper towels; this helps them fry crispy. Season lightly with salt and pepper for extra flavor.
  2. Heat cooking oil in your pan over medium heat. Add minced ginger and garlic, sautéing until they release their fragrant aroma, about 1–2 minutes. This step builds the base flavor for the dish.
  3. Add the sea bass pieces to the pan, pouring in soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and extra seasoning if needed. Cook each side until golden brown and fully cooked through, usually 5–6 minutes. Stir gently to avoid breaking the fillets.
  4. Sprinkle chopped green onions over the cooked fish. Give a quick stir to incorporate them. Serve immediately to enjoy the fresh aroma and flavors

Notes

  • I always pat the fillets dry; it keeps the fish crispy.
  • Using a non-stick pan helps prevent sticking and tearing.
  • Marinating the fish in soy and oyster sauce for 10–15 minutes enhances flavor.
  • I like adding a splash of lemon juice before serving to brighten the taste.
  • Stir gently to maintain the fish’s delicate texture.
