Grilled Fruit Skewers with Honey Glaze

I recently made these Grilled Fruit Skewers with Honey Glaze for a backyard barbecue, and they quickly became the star of the table. The combination of juicy fresh fruit and a lightly caramelized honey glaze creates an irresistible summer treat. I love how the grill enhances the natural sweetness of the fruit while adding a subtle smoky flavor
Total Time 25 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh pineapple chunks – Pineapple caramelizes beautifully and develops a rich sweetness when grilled.
  • 2 peaches cut into thick wedges – Choose slightly firm peaches so they don't fall apart on the grill.
  • 1 cup strawberries hulled – Large strawberries work best for skewering.
  • 2 tablespoons honey – Provides natural sweetness and creates a glossy glaze.
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice – Adds brightness and balances the sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter – Helps the glaze coat the fruit evenly.
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice – Gives a fresh citrus flavor that complements the fruit.
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon – Adds warmth and enhances the honey glaze.
  • Wooden or metal skewers – For assembling the fruit kabobs.

Method

  1. Wash all the fruit thoroughly and pat it dry. Cut the pineapple into chunks and slice the peaches into thick wedges. Remove the strawberry stems and set everything aside.
  2. Choose fruit that is ripe but still firm. Overripe fruit can become too soft and may break apart during grilling.
  3. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes. This helps prevent them from burning on the grill.
  4. Metal skewers can be used directly without soaking. Either option works well for this recipe.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, orange juice, melted butter, lime juice, and cinnamon. Stir until the mixture becomes smooth and well combined.
  6. The citrus juices brighten the flavor while the honey helps the fruit caramelize beautifully on the grill.
  7. Thread the pineapple, peaches, and strawberries onto the skewers. Alternate the fruit colors to create an attractive presentation.
  8. Leave a little space between pieces so the heat can circulate evenly during grilling.
  9. Heat your grill to medium temperature. Lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
  10. A moderately hot grill allows the fruit to caramelize without burning the honey glaze too quickly.
  11. Place the skewers on the grill and cook for about 8 to 10 minutes. Turn them every few minutes to ensure even cooking.
  12. Brush the honey glaze over the fruit throughout the grilling process for extra flavor and shine.
  13. Remove the skewers once the fruit is tender and lightly charred. Give them one final brush of glaze before serving.
  14. Allow them to cool slightly so the flavors settle and the fruit remains juicy.

Notes

  • I always use slightly firm fruit because it holds its shape much better on the grill.
  • I like brushing the glaze in layers instead of all at once for deeper flavor.
  • I avoid extremely high heat because honey can burn quickly.
  • I sometimes add a squeeze of fresh lime right before serving for extra brightness.
  • I found that pineapple develops the best caramelized texture when grilled a little longer.
  • I serve the skewers immediately because they taste best when still warm.
