Jasmine Oolong Tea Recipe

The first time I made Jasmine Oolong Tea at home, I was amazed by how beautifully the floral aroma of jasmine blended with the naturally sweet and slightly nutty notes of oolong tea. The tea filled my kitchen with a delicate fragrance that instantly felt relaxing. After a few tries, I found the perfect brewing method that brings out the best flavor without making the tea bitter.
Total Time 7 minutes
Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon 3g jasmine oolong tea leaves – Use high-quality loose-leaf tea for the best flavor and aroma.
  • 8 ounces 1 cup water – Filtered water helps preserve the delicate floral notes.
  • 1 teaspoon honey optional – Adds gentle sweetness without overpowering the tea.
  • 1 slice lemon optional – Provides a bright, refreshing twist.
  • Ice cubes optional, for iced tea – Perfect for serving cold on warm days.

Method

  1. Start by heating fresh filtered water to approximately 200°F (93°C). This temperature is ideal because it extracts the tea's flavor without scorching the leaves. Avoid boiling water, as it may create bitterness and mask the jasmine aroma.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon (about 3 grams) of jasmine oolong tea leaves to your teapot or infuser. Using the correct amount helps maintain a balanced flavor. Too many leaves can make the tea overly strong and less enjoyable.
  3. Pour the hot water over the tea leaves and allow them to steep for 5 minutes. During this time, the floral jasmine fragrance combines with the sweet and slightly nutty notes of the oolong tea. The result is a smooth and aromatic infusion.
  4. Remove the tea leaves or infuser once steeping is complete. Pour the tea into your favorite cup and enjoy it as is. If desired, add honey or lemon to enhance the flavor while preserving the tea's natural character.
  5. For iced tea, allow the freshly brewed tea to cool slightly before pouring it over ice. This creates a refreshing beverage with a clean finish. The floral notes become especially pleasant when served chilled.
  6. For an even smoother tea, combine 1 teaspoon of jasmine oolong tea with 8 ounces of cold water. Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight. This method produces a naturally sweeter and less astringent cup.

Notes

  • I always use filtered water because it allows the jasmine fragrance to shine through more clearly.
  • I avoid over-steeping the tea since extra steeping time can make the oolong taste bitter.
  • I like to pre-warm my teapot with hot water before brewing for better heat retention.
  • I often re-steep the same tea leaves two or three times because the flavor remains delicious.
  • I chill cold-brewed tea overnight for the smoothest and sweetest flavor.
  • I use loose-leaf tea whenever possible because it delivers a richer aroma than lower-quality tea bags.
