Mediterranean Baked Feta Recipe

I recently tried this Mediterranean baked feta recipe, and honestly, it felt like a restaurant-quality dish made right in my kitchen. The creamy, warm feta paired with juicy tomatoes and herbs created such a comforting flavor. I love how simple it was to prepare, yet it looked so elegant when served
Total Time 40 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • feta cheese block, 200g – always use a block instead of crumbles for a creamy, melty texture
  • cherry tomatoes 2 cups – choose ripe, sweet tomatoes for maximum flavor
  • olive oil 3 tablespoons – use extra virgin olive oil for rich Mediterranean taste
  • garlic cloves 3, minced – fresh garlic gives a stronger aroma than pre-minced
  • dried oregano 1 teaspoon – classic Mediterranean herb that enhances the dish
  • red pepper flakes ½ teaspoon – adds a subtle heat; adjust to taste
  • black olives ½ cup, pitted – adds a salty, tangy contrast
  • fresh basil leaves for garnish – brings freshness and color
  • salt to taste – go light since feta is already salty
  • black pepper ½ teaspoon – adds mild spice and depth

Method

  1. In a bowl, combine cherry tomatoes, olives, garlic, olive oil, oregano, and pepper flakes. Toss everything well so the flavors coat evenly. I like to make sure the tomatoes are well covered in oil.
  2. Place the feta block in the center of your baking dish and surround it with the seasoned vegetables. This setup allows the feta to soften while soaking up all the juices. It creates a beautiful presentation too.
  3. Bake the dish for about 25–30 minutes until the tomatoes burst and feta becomes soft. I usually check at 25 minutes to avoid overcooking. The aroma at this stage is absolutely irresistible.
  4. Remove from the oven and top with fresh basil leaves. Let it cool slightly before serving so the flavors settle. I always drizzle a little extra olive oil for added richness

Notes

  • I always use high-quality feta because it makes a huge difference in taste
  • Don’t skip fresh basil—it adds a fresh contrast to the baked flavors
  • I sometimes broil it for 2–3 minutes at the end for a slightly golden top
  • Let it rest for a few minutes before serving so the flavors blend well
  • I like adding a splash of lemon juice for a bright, zesty finish
