Mint Chocolate Green Protein Smoothie Recipe

I recently tried making this Mint Chocolate Green Protein Smoothie, and wow—it turned out even better than I imagined! The combination of chocolate and mint gives it a dessert-like flavor, yet it’s packed with healthy greens and protein. I love how easy it is to make, and it feels like a treat that’s actually good for me.
Total Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder I prefer plant-based brands like Sun Warrior or Genuine Health for a smooth chocolatey taste
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed adds fiber and omega-3s
  • 1 medium banana frozen for creaminess and natural sweetness
  • 1 cup fresh spinach fresh works best; it blends smoothly without overpowering the flavor
  • ¼ teaspoon pure peppermint extract or 1 mint leaf gives that refreshing mint kick
  • 4 ice cubes helps thicken and chill the smoothie perfectly
  • ¾ cup unsweetened almond milk or any plant-based milk you like for creaminess
  • 1 tablespoon coconut nectar or honey choose honey if not vegan; adds subtle sweetness
  • 1 tablespoon dairy-free chopped dark chocolate optional, but adds a rich chocolatey crunch
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons melted dark chocolate for a chocolate swirl on the glass

Method

  1. I start by gathering all the ingredients. Make sure your banana is frozen if you want that thick, creamy texture. Fresh spinach blends smoothly and keeps the smoothie vibrant green.
  2. Next, I add all ingredients except the dark chocolate to my blender. I blend until smooth and creamy, usually about 30–45 seconds. If it’s too thick, I add a little extra almond milk.
  3. Once blended, I sprinkle chopped dark chocolate on top. For a fancy touch, I sometimes drizzle melted chocolate on the inside of the glass for a swirl effect. It makes the smoothie look like a decadent treat!

Notes

  • I always freeze my banana ahead of time—it makes the smoothie perfectly thick.
  • Blending on high speed ensures the spinach is completely smooth.
  • I add peppermint extract gradually; a little goes a long way.
  • Using dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate balances sweetness and adds antioxidants.
  • I sometimes blend in a few frozen berries for an extra flavor punch.
