Pumpkin Fluff Dip Recipe

I still remember the first time I made this pumpkin fluff dip for a family Thanksgiving get-together, and it disappeared faster than anything else on the table. I love how it tastes exactly like pumpkin pie filling but takes almost no effort to whip up.
Total Time 1 hour 5 minutes
Servings: 10

Ingredients

  • 1 can 15 oz pumpkin puree – use plain pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, so you can control the sweetness yourself
  • 1 package 3.4 oz instant vanilla pudding mix – this is what gives the dip its thick, fluffy texture without any cooking
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice – adds that warm spiced flavor that makes this taste like pumpkin pie
  • 1 tub 8 oz whipped topping, thawed – fold it in gently for a light, airy texture instead of a dense dip
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional – a small splash rounds out the flavor and makes it taste more homemade

Method

  1. In your large mixing bowl, add the pumpkin puree, instant vanilla pudding mix, and pumpkin pie spice. Whisk everything together until it is completely smooth and there are no dry pockets of pudding mix left. This base sets the flavor foundation for the whole dip, so take an extra minute to get it fully blended.
  2. Add the thawed whipped topping to the pumpkin mixture and use your spatula to fold it in gently. I always fold rather than stir here because stirring too hard knocks the air out and leaves you with a denser, less fluffy dip. Keep folding just until everything is evenly combined and no streaks remain.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a tight-fitting lid and place it in the refrigerator for at least one hour. This chilling time lets the pudding mix set properly, which thickens the dip and helps all the flavors come together. If you have time, chilling it a bit longer only makes it better.
  4. Once the dip has chilled and thickened, take it out and give it one gentle stir before serving. This just evens out the texture again since some settling can happen in the fridge. It only takes a few seconds and makes a noticeable difference in presentation.
  5. Transfer the dip to your serving bowl of choice, or leave it in the mixing bowl if that works for your gathering. Set out your favorite dippers right alongside it so guests can dig in immediately. This is the moment I always look forward to, watching the bowl empty out within minutes.

Notes

  • I always make sure my whipped topping is fully thawed before folding it in, or the dip ends up with odd lumps.
  • I like to taste the mixture before chilling and add a touch more pumpkin pie spice if I want a bolder flavor.
  • I never skip the chill time, even when I am short on time, because a cold dip always tastes better than a room-temperature one.
  • I sometimes swap in a bit of Greek yogurt for part of the whipped topping when I want a slightly tangier, lighter dip.
  • I keep my mixing bowl chilled in the freezer for ten minutes beforehand, which helps the whipped topping hold its fluffiness longer.
